Welcome. I’m Matt Phillips — a professional freelance photographer based in South Wales, working with brands, businesses, people and events to create photography that tells a story, captures attention and feels authentic.

Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I spent a good chunk of my childhood hanging around my Dad and Uncle and their photography business, often hiding under the tables in the darkroom while they worked. I can still remember the smell of the chemicals, the sound of the enlarger and the ever-present smell of coffee. Those early experiences stayed with me and, somewhere along the way, photography became much more than a hobby — it became my craft and my career.

Today, I work across a broad range of commercial and editorial photography, with a particular passion for adventure, endurance sport, outdoor brands, people and authentic storytelling.

I work with businesses, brands, events, music promoters, bands and artists, food and drink companies, tourism organisations, authors, publishers and sports events — creating imagery for everything from campaigns and social media content to websites, editorial features and brand libraries.

I’m equally comfortable working in the middle of an ultra marathon on top of a mountain, on location with a brand, in a busy event environment or quietly making portraits of the people behind a business.

For me, great photography isn't simply about making something look good. It’s about understanding what you’re trying to say, who you’re trying to reach and how an image can help you say it.

I take a relaxed, collaborative approach to every project. I want people to feel comfortable in front of the camera and clients to feel confident that I understand what they need. Whether it’s a single shoot or an ongoing content partnership, I bring the same attention to detail, creativity and enthusiasm to the job.

I’m also fortunate to work in the environments I photograph. As a trail runner and cyclist, I understand the energy, emotion and unpredictability of endurance sport and the outdoors — and I genuinely love being there to capture it.

From the quiet moments to the big ones, I’m interested in the people, the details, the movement and everything that happens in between.

I’m based in South Wales, UK, and available for commissions throughout the UK and worldwide.
